Alban Arts Center – The Artistic Jewel of West Virginia
For our latest client profile, we are delighted to share the story of Alban Arts Center – a TicketPeak client since 2013. Alban Arts Center is a 225-seat theater in downtown St. Albans, West Virginia. The Alban Theater was built as a movie house in 1938. Today, it is the center of artistic opportunities including theatrical productions and artistic education in areas such as acting, improv, and musical theatre.1. What is Alban Arts Center all about?
The Alban Arts Center is all about enriching the lives of those in our community through the performing arts and serving as a leader in Arts Education by educating the artists of tomorrow with the artists of today.2. When and how was Alban Arts Center started?
The Alban Arts Center was started in 2008 with the help of the City of St. Albans, The St. Albans Regional Development Authority, and some artistically driven citizens who created our non-profit board. Together they purchased a historic theater in town and revitalized it into the thriving arts center it is today.
3. How has Alban Arts Center grown or evolved?
When the Alban Arts Center first opened, the main activity in the building was showing second run movies for free to the local community, and renting the facility for conferences, concerts, and a variety of other performances. Today, we produce four to six theatrical productions each year, in addition to housing several other local community theatre organizations. In addition to producing theatrical productions, the Alban now also houses the Alban Arts Academy, which offers classes in the performing arts to well over one hundred students per semester that come from communities spanning seven counties in the great state of West Virginia.
