5 Podcasts For Musical Theatre Lovers

Are you among the 51% of the US population that has listened to a podcast? We sure are and are proud to say we love them! So, what’s with all the podcast hype? Well, they’re the perfect entertainment for long car rides or urban commutes. And, there’s a ton of options. As of April 2019, Apple confirmed there are over 29 million podcast episodes. In general, podcast listeners are considered to be an extremely loyal audience. According to Podcast Insights, more than 80% listen to almost the entire podcast episode.

As musical theatre folk, we tend to love podcasts that share information and updates about musical theatre and the Broadway community. So, we’re sharing some of our favourites that offer in-depth interviews with big theatre names to rising stars, and industry tips and trends. Keep reading for 5 musical theatre podcasts we think all performing arts lovers should be listening to.

1. Fireside Mystery Theatre

If you’re a fan of live audio, then this is the podcast for you. Once a month, Ali Silva and her company of actors and musicians perform at The Slipper Room in New York City. Fireside Mystery Theatre is a recording and extremely entertaining result of this performance.

2. The Musicals & Theatre Podcast

Keep up to date with the world of London theatre with The Musicals & Theatre podcast hosted by British broadcaster and journalist, Alice Arnold. Notable episodes include attendance at The Olivier Awards and a two-part interview with Julian Bird, chief executive of the Society of London Theatre.

3. Making a Musical

Do you ever wonder how off-Broadway musicals are made? Making a Musical shares how! Hosted by Emmy Award winner Jacklyn Thrapp, Making a Musical talks about the process of making a musical with tips, tricks, and mistakes along the way.

4.  Sunday Show Tunes

Hosted and produced by Maureen Rejali and Paul Branch, the award-winning Sunday Show Tunes interviews composers, lyricists and actors from Hollywood, the West End, and Broadway. Must listen episodes are: Joshua Morgan and Come From Away London.

In our opinion, we’ve saved the best for last. If you haven’t listened to Theater People, you’re seriously missing out. Interviews with Tony winners, Broadway legends, and rising stars, Theatre People is hosted and produced by Patrick Hinds. Some notable episodes: interviews with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Phillipa Soo, and Sierra Boggess.
