Community Theater Dinner Theater High School Theater Just Interesting

A quick scroll through the TicketPeak blog homepage reveals a number of articles about selecting an event ticketing system for your theatre, organization or high school. There’s a number of them because this is a “tricky business” topic! Contrary to popular belief, event ticketing services are not all created equal and there is no “one size fits all” option.

I can’t stress enough how incredibly important it is that you take a serious look at how your community theatre or high school box office currently operates, how you would like it to operate, and how you can make those adjustments. However, sometimes it’s difficult to identify which (if any) adjustments need to be made. You can make a step in the right direction towards making those adjustments by asking yourself 3 seemingly simple questions.

…are you ready for this?

Selecting a Ticketing System What Ticket Buyers Want

Beauty and the Beast. Seussical. Grease. Into the Woods. Footloose. The Wizard of Oz. You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The Music Man. Once upon a Mattress. Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Does that list look familiar? If you’re a regular reader of the TicketPeak blog then you probably recognize it from our posts from a few weeks back on small cast musicals and medium cast musicals for high school performance. The musicals listed above are the top 10 most performed musicals in U.S. high schools.

It’s important to remember that the most performed musicals are not necessarily the best. There’s something a little bit comfortable and (dare I say it) safe about choosing an often performed musical such as The Music Man or Once upon a Mattress. Some of your prospective cast will likely have had some exposure to your selection and these highly performed musicals often perform well at the box office.

But…

Wouldn’t it be fun to stray off the beaten path and choose something that will challenge your performing troupe and appeal to an audience that just might have had enough of Beauty and the Beast? And really, there is such a wide selection of musicals out there for large casts of over 20 performers that you shouldn’t limit yourself. Read on for 5 not-so-common contemporary musicals for a large cast that can be performed in a high school theatre.
